About AWE

Artists Working in Education, Inc. (AWE), sponsors professional artists to nurture the imaginations of Milwaukee children by bringing  creative visual arts experiences directly to  schools, community centers and informal settings such as parks, playgrounds and community events. 

AWE artists guide children through the process of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary.  Hands-on art activities with professional artists help children develop new ways of  seeing the world, enhanced inquisitiveness, creativity, flexibility, imagination and confidence.  AWE believes children deserve the opportunity not only to look at art, talk about art and write about art , but to create art.

Truck Studio

Artists with AWE's fleet of four brightly painted mini-vans bring fun, short term creative art experiences to children free of charge in high need Milwaukee neighborhood parks and playgrounds during a six-week summer season.  Truck Studio artists are also available throughout the year to provide customized, short term art activities on a fee-for-service basis to children at community organizations, neighborhood centers, schools and at special events.

School Studio

The School Studio Artist-in-Residence program offers schools the opportunity to bring a professional artist into their classrooms. Longer term collaborative residencies allow children to connect with the artist in a meaningful way and explore art together with their classmates through the creation of a large scale artwork  installed permanently at the school.
