About AWE
Vision: MKE’s mighty catalyst, changing the perception of art and creativity as a viable path to success for all.
Artists Working in Education, Inc. (AWE), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that sponsors professional artists to nurture the imaginations of Milwaukee youth by bringing creative visual arts experiences directly to schools, community centers and informal settings such as parks, playgrounds, libraries and community events.
AWE artists guide children through the process of transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. Meaningful arts programming helps youth develop new ways of seeing the world, enhanced inquisitiveness, creativity, flexibility, imagination and confidence.
Safe, supportive spaces are necessary for kids and adults alike
AWE’s arts enrichment programs activate public spaces in traditionally underserved neighborhoods, transforming them into pop-up art studios, attracting youth to pursue an artistic passion.

Milwaukee is a city rich in culture exemplified in its countless artists and youthful neighborhoods which, AWE supports in the building of relationships to nurture the things that make this city one of a kind.
Artists are valuable mentors who help us to better envision ourselves
AWE provides meaningful career opportunities and training to artists, working side-by-side with professional teaching artists shows the youth we serve that they can pursue creative careers.
